Romeo and Juliet Act 1

Hello parents and grade 10 students.  In English 10 today we covered the following topics:
1.) Watched Act 1 Scenes 1-5 of Romeo and Juliet
2.) Did a summary of what happened in each act
3.) We worked on our R+J study packages

Please complete up to Act 2 in your study package for tomorrow.  Please bring a novel to class that you would be interested in reading during silent reading.

Welcome back.  Today in English 10 we went and signed out our Romeo and Juliet texts.  Please bring your textbook to every class for the next 2-3 weeks.  In class we completed the following:
1.) Introduction to the characters in the play
2.) Basic introduction to the Scenes and Acts.

Tomorrow we will start to analyze Act 1 Scene 1, and 2.

Narrative essay's were due today.

Happy Friday

In class today we took a break from our writing and completed a stranded in the desert challenge.  After that we spent the rest of the class editing each others narrative essays.  Final copy, rough draft and outline are due on Monday.  On Monday we will start our Romeo and Juliet unit.

Narrative Essay Revisions

Today's English 10 class was devoted to the following:
1.) Writing a rough copy of our narrative essay- please keep your outline it is worth marks
2.) Making revisions- a revision checklist was provided

Our collection of poems from our poetry unit was due today.  This project is worth 45 marks.  Please hand it in tomorrow if you didn't do so today.

Narrative Essay Outline

Today in English 10 we continued to learn about how to write a narrative essay.  In class we covered the following topics:
1.) Read a narrative essay called "The Chase"
2.) We looked to identify- the grabber statement, thesis statement, the bait, vivid verbs.
3.) We worked on finishing our narrative essay outline

Tomorrow we will be writing the rough copy of our narrative essay as well as making revisions to our stories.

Introduction to Narrative Essay Writing

Welcome back.  In class today we started to look at how to write a Narrative Essay.  We discussed the following topics:
1.) Having an anecdote, grabber statement and bait
2.) We read and analyzed a narrative essay called "The Dare"
3.) We started brainstorming ideas for our own narrative essay.

Homework- please come up with a grabber statement and thesis statement for the introduction of your narrative essay.

Poetry Test Day

Today we wrote our poetry unit final test.  The students had to respond to three short poems.  The unit test was intended to mimic the poetry section on the provincial exam.

SIFTing a Poem

Today in English 10 we discussed how to unpack a poem.  We discussed a strategy called SIFT which stands for sensory information, imagery, form and the title.  It is important to look for these things after reading the poem.
These are the following topics covered:
1.) Unpacking a poem
2.) Unpacked the poem "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noes
3.) Made a found poem

Tomorrow we will be starting our acrostic poem and finishing our found poem.

3.) Identified Rhythm and Rhyme in a variety of different poems

Monday
Today we did a basic introduction to our new poetry unit.  These are the things we discussed
1.) Poetry terms(handout provided), poetry booklet and the four components of poetry
                     1. Rhythm 2. Melody 3. Imagery 4. Form
3.) Introduced to Rhythm- how poetry is measured based on syllables(beats), and line length (meter)

Last Day of Computer Time!

Hello parents and students.  Today was the last day to edit our movie trailers.  The students worked really hard over the past week to put together some really funny movie trailers.  Tomorrow we will watch them as a class.

CIDN Movie Trailer

Hello parents and English 10 students.  Today we conitnued to work on filming our trailer for the movie "The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time.  Students were also asked if they wanted a paper our online provincial exam.
