Work Day

In class today we worked on writing our persuasive essay. We discussed the criteria for writing a good persuasive essay. Tomorrow final copies will be due.

Essay Criteria
- Introduction- general to specific with a strong thesis statement
-Variety of sentences including different sentence starters.
-Quotes that support the thesis statement.
-Strong paragraph form- PEEC
-Transitions- used at the start of the supporting paragraphs
-Strong Conclusion- rewords the thesis
-Conventions- correct spelling, grammar and punctuation

After Spring break we will be starting a novel study.

Persuasive Essay

Over the past three classes we have been working on researching information to help us write a persuasive essay. Today's class was devoted to finishing our research and note taking. There will not be any more time issued for research, so if you are not done you must work on it tonight.

Friday

Hello parents and grade 10 students. This week was a great week of learning and improvement. We have been working really hard to improve our writing and I happy to say that I've seen many improvements.

In Friday's class we covered the following:
1.) Silent Reading
2.) Editing Conference for All The Troubles of I-Robot (final copy is due on Monday)
3.) Brainstormed a topic for our Persuasive Essay- (starting on Monday)

It is important that you come to class on Monday with a topic that you would like to persuade other people to believe. We will be doing some research and writinf a persuasive essay.

During Thursday's class we spent some time looking really closely at the structure of an essay. We discussed the following topics
1.) Introduction and Thesis Statement
2.) Body- Supporting Paragraphs and PEEC
3.) Conclusion- rewording the Thesis

Wednesday was a test day. The students wrote their short story unit test which consisted of the following:
1.) Literary terms
2.) Media and advertising
3.) Compairing two texts- literary response(these were done well)

Overall a great week of learning. This is the last week of term 3 so it is important that you hand in any missing assignments before Spring break.

In English 10 today we covered the following:
1.) Last day of literary presentations
2.) Discussed what will be on the short story test tomorrow
3.) Discussed how to write a conclusion
4.) Wrote our two supporting paragraphs for I-Robot and All The Troubles Of The World (this is for homework 5 marks if you finish it)

Reminder that we have a short story unit test tomorrow. Please study!

In class today we did the following:
1.) Read Internet Is Hero's Window- page 162 and Enligthenment and Muscular Dystrophy on page 190
2.) Wrote a literary response on the following question- with reference to the story and poem, discuss how both Nightngale and Coppola show determination.
